My first impression of Buffy Hamilton’s tweets was that she
posted very frank comments about certain topics. One particular post was
addressing her neighbor to stop shooting “obnoxious fireworks” on July 5th
because 4th of July was over. I appreciated her honest posts. After
all, that’s the purpose of having a blog right?

Georgia still chasing flawed economic model http://t.co/NC7SHlSuJV from @jaybookmanajc

After looking through some of her posts, I felt that Buffy
Hamilton inspires me to be involved in what’s happening in my own community and
others as well. I found several of her posts dealing with changes in her own
state and others. She posted links to articles about Georgia’s economic model
and another on Cleveland’s future renovation plans. I think it is important to
know what is going on in your own community and this is something I definitely
want to become more involved in. Personally, I have always tried to stay away
from joining Town Hall meetings because I was under the impression that it
would be useless here in a small town where politics is the controlling factor
when it comes to any changes that occur. However, some of these tweets, which
Hamilton posted, changed my perspective. I went in to read the articles and even
some of the comments left by others. The comments shared different perspectives
and disagreements with their state’s decisions, but yet they were being heard.
I got to thinking that it is important to voice your opinions in your community
especially when it deals with changes that will affect your family. Whether or
not the community leaders listen or not is another deal. What ultimately
matters is that you speak up and participate. There is a saying I once heard
that says, “be a participator, not just a spectator.” That is what I find
myself today striving to be. I hope to become more than just an inhabitant in my
town, but a leader.
