Talk Nerdy To Me! Oh My Gosh!

The Daring Librarian is truly a daring librarian.

My first impression of The Daring Librarian’s tweets was that she was very fond of her dog Bruno. She posted pictures of him with a sad face because she was leaving on a trip.

After looking into her tweets, I found my favorite one had to be her Retweeted post of the Talk Nerdy To Me YouTube video. The reason this post attracted my attention, is because I personally detest that song and the lifestyle that it provokes for its young listeners. Anyhow, I had not seen a parody of this song and thought the title “Talk Nerdy to Me” could perhaps give me some different image of the original’s song imagery. I absolutely loved it. The theme of this parody seemed to be once stated within the song lyrics saying, “ I got nerd friends, but they’re friends with respect.” I thought this was a lovely way of telling kids that it's great to be smart and it is simply speaking a different language, but again, a good thing!  I had to retweet this myself.

I think that it is important for educators to help students maintain a positive self-image and perhaps silly little videos like this one might provide some support. I honestly believe that music is a great tool for teaching because it's something that triggers a part of our innate being. I have yet to meet a baby that does not begin to dance when they hear music they like. With this in mind, if we can use music to engage our students in a positive way, then let's. Unfortunately, much of the popular music today has inappropriate song lyrics and sends out the message to young kids that that is the natural way of thinking. So here we have smart and full of potential children, thinking they have to act a certain way. Ugh! But this is why I have to thank the creators of Talk Nerdy To Me YouTube video for promoting a clean type of music kids can enjoy. Even if kids are just hearing it for the humor, hey, at least they aren't listening to the other dirty music. ;)

Overall, I enjoy following The Daring Librarian and will continue to do so in the future. Great and encouraging tweet by the Daring Librarian @GwynethJones.
